This is an elective class in the Department of Human Developmental Science. The objective of this course is for the students to learn how to become confident English teachers.

This course will utilize speaking, reading, writing, and listening exercises focused on childcare to develop students’ knowledge of the subject area and English abilities. This class is beginning level Oral Communication I of the Department of Human Developmental Science.

Students should complete the reading and exercises before class each week. Generally, 30 minutes of review and 30 minutes of preparation should be completed each week.

Students will participate in various active learning exercises, such as activities and practices related to the textbook and accompanying CD (online listening), to improve their English communication skills. Activities include pair-work, discussions, interviews, and role plays. Two or three students a week will introduce the class to a listening exercise from Randall's ESL Listening Lab.

(1) Obey all university rules. (2) Unexcused absences will seriously impact a student’s grade. (3) If a student is late for three classes, that amounts to one's absence. (4) Students are expected to attend class on time, be prepared, and participate positively. (5) Listen carefully to others when they are speaking.
